Advanced Certified Newborn Care Specialist
I discovered the role of a Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) in 2017 when a dear friend of mine told me, “You’re a NCS, you just don’t know it yet.” I had been working as a Postpartum Doula since 2014 in Hawai’i, but we didn’t have Newborn Care Specialists on island. Families that wanted longer term 24/7 support would fly NCSs over from the mainland.
Since then, I’ve been working with families all across the country as a Newborn Care Specialist. A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) is a highly trained and experienced newborn care provider. We provide direct newborn care and parent education and stay up to date on research with the latest guidelines and recommendations. Newborn Care Specialists have advanced education on how to address a range of issues and unique challenges that can arise with newborns.
I have training and experience working with twins, premature babies, breast and bottle feeding & milk storage, sleep shaping, babies born via surrogacy, etc.
The NCS field is not regulated, which means there is no state or national licensing body. You can do a training and then go out into the world to work.
Newborn Care Specialist Association
The Newborn Care Specialist Association (NCSA) aims to establish and maintain the certification standards for Newborn Care Specialists. The NCSA is the professional association for the NCS community. I am both a member and hold my certification with the NCSA.
I’m proud to say that I earned my Advanced NCS certification in 2022 with over 6,000+ in-home hours plus additional learning requirements.
While I am based in Lexington, KY, I also travel to clients across the country.
