Summertime Kid Care with doTERRA Oils: Gentle Support from Nature

Summer is finally in full swing here in Kentucky! That means longer days, warmer (okay, stupid hot) breezes, and plenty of outdoor time. But with all this sunshine comes the seasonal sniffles, bug bites, and the occasional emotional overwhelm.

This is the time of year, I really like to lean into my natural momma toolkit—and at the top of that list? My beloved doTERRA essential oils.

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite ways to use these plant-powered gems to support our little ones (and ourselves) during this vibrant season.

1. Breathe Easy, Little One

With all the blooming going on, even the most outdoorsy kiddos start to get a little stuffy this time of year. My go-to?

doTERRA Breathe® blend—Dilute a drop or two in a carrier oil like fractionated coconut and rub it on the chest and back. You can also add a few drops to a diffuser at night to help clear those airways.

Pro tip: For extra comfort, a warm washcloth with a drop of Breathe on the chest during bath time is magic.

2. Bug-Off Blend for Outdoor Play

Mosquitos don’t play during summer in Kentucky, but I like to avoid harsh sprays by making my own all-natural bug repellent using:

  • 10 drops Terrashield®

  • 5 drops Lavender

  • 5 drops Lemongrass

  • Topped off with witch hazel and water in a 2 oz. spray bottle

It smells fresh, works well, and I don’t worry about what’s soaking into little ones’ skin.

3. Natural Mood Balancer

The excitement of summer can sometimes turn into sensory overload (tantrums, anyone?). Fall sport try-outs can bring some anxiety to your older kiddos. School transitions can be fraught with big feelings. When emotions run high, I love rolling doTERRA Balance® or Adaptiv® behind ears or on wrists.

Keep a roller in your purse for summer camp drop-offs or post-playdate crashes. This can provide a gentle reset that helps your child’s nervous system (and yours!) find calm.

4. Soothing Skin from Sun & Play

If your kids are coming in a little pink after outdoor fun in the sun, mix Lavender + Frankincense in a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond or jojoba oil for an after-sun soothe. It’s also great for little scrapes and bug bites. Lavender is truly the Swiss Army knife of oils—gentle, calming, and skin-loving.

Final Thoughts

As always, keep in mind that essential oils are powerful. Less is more—especially with little bodies. Dilute when using oils on kids and do patch tests when trying something new.

Using essential oils has become one of those small daily rituals that keep me grounded as a momma. It’s like giving your child (and yourself) a hug straight from nature.

Here’s to light-filled days, strong immune systems, and the sweet scent of childhood in the summer.
